Finding the perfect fitting pair of knickers can daunting as there are so many different shapes and styles of knickers to choose from.
Do I want a thong or a string? What is a Brazilian? Will a high waist suit me?
Although confusing, all the different styles of knickers can be put into five distinct categories:
5) High Waist
They all have their own style benefits, suit different body shapes and work well under different types of outfits.
To help you decide the best styles for you we have put together a guide to the different types of knickers with explanations on the benefits and drawbacks of each.
This is, without doubt, the most popular knicker type. Due to how comfortable they are, they have become an everyday staple for most women.
But, classic doesn’t mean boring, with so many different colours and materials to choose from, they can be as sexy as any other knicker style.
They gently curve at the front and sit comfortably across the hips or tummy and provide full coverage across the bottom.
The drawback with classic knickers is if you’re wearing a tight-fitting outfit you will probably see knicker lines.
However, classic knickers are good for creating curves and suits all body types especially athletic shapes.
These are also known as boy shorts as the shape is very similar to men’s boxer shorts.
They are becoming more popular due again to how comfortable they are while giving a smooth silhouette under most outfits.
With a low straight cut leg, full coverage on the bottom and higher waist than other styles they give plenty of coverage.
With all the different colours and fabrics they range from pretty and sweet to very sexy.
Good for a smooth silhouette, this style suits all shapes. Short knickers are particularly flattering for pear shapes but not that flattering on flatter bottoms.
Brazilian knickers are probably one of the sexiest shapes.
They are cut low across the hips with a cheeky cutaway back. Normally cut slightly higher on the leg, Brazilians give more coverage than a thong, but less than classic briefs.
They come in lots of different colours and fabrics ranging from pretty to very sexy.
Good for flattering curves, elongating the legs and helping out flatter bottoms. Suits all shapes but particularly flattering for pear shapes and petites.
Thongs and strings are the raciest of the knicker types with their barely-there look.
Thongs have a thicker band than the string to cover your modesty and are considered more comfortable than the string.
Both have a higher leg than other styles so elongate the legs. They come in lots of different colours and fabrics ranging from pretty to very sexy.
Suits all shapes but particularly flattering for athletic shapes and petites. However, thongs and strings can be uncomfortable if they don’t fit correctly.
With a high waist and lower cut legs, this knicker style gives fantastic coverage and works well with high waist trousers and skirts which are very fashionable at the moment.
Gone are the days these were considered frumpy. Nowadays they are made in a variety of beautiful materials and colours while still giving excellent bottom and tummy control for a smooth silhouette.
They come in lots of different colours and fabrics ranging from practical, pretty or very sexy.
Suits all shapes but particularly flattering for curvy shapes. Good for flattering curves and giving a sculptured silhouette. However, if not the correct size they can create lumps and bumps at the waist and bellow the bottom.
